Beverly Ann Cook

February 19, 1938 - May 3, 2020

Beverly Ann Cook, age 82, of West Frankfort, IL, passed away peacefully with her son, Kevin by her side at 10:35 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2020, in Herrin Hospital of Herrin, IL. She was born on Saturday, February 19, 1938, in Herrin, IL, the daughter of Thomas Harold and Opal Loraine (Smith) Crowell. Beverly grew up in Herrin and West Frankfort and attended elementary school in Herrin and later high school in West Frankfort. She was united in marriage to James D. Cook on February 26, 1955, in Pershing, IL, located west of West Frankfort, and together they shared over 41 years of marriage. This union was blessed with two children; Debbie and Kevin. Beverly’s working career began at an early age in the 1960’s, working as a sales associate for the F.W. Woolworth Store in Carbondale, IL. She later became the cashier for New Era Dairy and later for the Prairie Farms Dairy both of Carbondale as their cashier in charge of collecting the monies from the drivers. Later she began working for H & R Block Tax Service of Johnston City, IL, as a tax preparer for 35 years. She also owned and operated “Bev’s Tax Service” from her home in West Frankfort, doing bookkeeping and tax preparation for 55 years until she retired in 2019. She was of the Nazarene faith and was a member and attended at the First Church of the Nazarene of West Frankfort, until it closed. She also was a very faithful member and supporter of the West Frankfort Elks No. 1340 B.P.O.E. and was a former member of the West Frankfort V.F.W. Post No. 5764 Ladies Auxiliary. In her spare time Beverly enjoyed doing crafts, sewing, playing bingo and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan. She loved her family, especially those of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved her family, always interested in their activities, especially those of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed the many times they all shared together and the many memories created will be cherished by those she leaves behind. She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Stanley of Orient, IL; son, Kevin Cook of West Frankfort; two granddaughters, Casey Lynn Stanley and Randi Marie Holland and her husband, Michael all of West Frankfort; three great grandchildren, Aeyden James Moyer, Faye Marie Furlong and Joseph Tyler Furlong all of West Frankfort, other extended family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, David Crowell and son-in-law, Randy Stanley. Arrangements were entrusted to Stone Funeral Home, 1201 E. Poplar Street, West Frankfort, IL. The prelude and postlude were recorded musical selections. Special vocal musical selection presented during the service was “There Is A River” by son, Kevin Cook. DUE TO HEALTH CONCERNS RELATED TO THE COVID-19 VIRUS AND BY THE SIGNING OF EXECUTIVE ORDER BY THE ILLINOIS GOVERNOR, the funeral service was private with Rev. Mike Cash presiding. Interment was in Herrin City Cemetery of Herrin, IL. Pallbearers were, Robert Welborn, Aeyden Moyer, Lewis Moyer, Faye Furlong, Robert Agnitsch and Diane Sanders. For those who preferred, memorial contributions were made to either/or both “The Elk’s National Foundation” and/or “Hospice of Southern Illinois”. Memorial contribute ons were mailed to the Stone Funeral Home, 1201 E. Poplar Street, West Frankfort, IL 62896. For additional information call the funeral home at 618-932-2161.
