Charlie E. Poe, age 54, of West Frankfort, IL, passed away peacefully at 10:20 a.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2016, in Herrin Hospital of Herrin, IL. He was born on Friday, July 28, 1961, in DuQuoin, IL the son of Earl Thomas and Minnie Elizabeth (Armstrong) Poe. Charlie grew up in Zeigler, IL, attending school in Zeigler and was a graduated of Zeigler-Royalton High School Class of 1980. His working career was as a hospital orderly for many years until his health declined. Charlie was united in marriage to Brenda Grove on Wednesday, July 15, 1992, in the Christian Church of Zeigler, IL and together they have shared over twenty-three years of marriage. He was a member of First Christian Church of West Frankfort, IL. Win or lose, Charlie was a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan and was a great story teller like his father. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Poe of West Frankfort; daughter, Jamie Lin Poe and husband Jared of Paducah, KY; son, Eric Justin and wife Morgan Poe of Benton, IL; stepson, Daniel Lewis Burroughs, Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Kissimmee, FL; daughter-in-law, Rachel Burroughs of West Frankfort; nine grandchildren, Michael Austin, Alexandria Paige and Trey Dalton Burroughs all of Plumfield, IL, Torie Beckett of Carterville, IL, Jacob, Gage and Hannah Burroughs of West Frankfort; McKenzie Danielle Poe of Paducah, KY and Shawn Matthew Poe of Benton, IL; three great grandchildren, Jasmine, Deanna and Marcus Beckett all of Carterville, IL; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan Elizabeth and Thomas Chitwood of West Frankfort and Patsy Mae and Paul Hopkins of Benton, IL; three brothers, William James “Bill” and Maria Poe of Killeen, TX, Carl Dean and Tylena Poe of West Frankfort and Clarence Eugene “Gene” and Stacey Poe of West Frankfort, other extended family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Lynn Bryant; two brothers, Earl Wayne Poe and Boyd Alan Poe and stepson, Sean Burroughs. Arrangements for Charlie Poe were entrusted to Stone Funeral Home, 1201 East Poplar St., in West Frankfort, IL. The visitation was from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at First Christian Church, located at 1001 South Cherry Street, of West Frankfort, IL. During the time of visitation a “Reflection of Life” DVD Memorial Tribute featuring special people, places and events of Charlie’s life was presented to the family and friends. Following the time of visitation the funeral service was at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jason Ishmael presiding. The prelude and postlude musical selections were recorded piano selections. Special recorded vocal musical selections presented during the service were “Dancing In the Sky” by Dani & Lizzy, “10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord” by Matt Redman and “Open the Eyes of My Heart” by Michael W. Smith. Interment followed in Tower Heights Cemetery of West Frankfort. Pallbearers were Daniel Burroughs, Jacob Burroughs, Michael Burroughs, Gage Burroughs, Trey Burroughs, Darrell Grove and Donavon Poe. Following the service the family and friends gather at Charlie and Brenda’s home for a meal and continued time of fellowship and support. For those who preferred, memorial contributions were made to the “Brenda Poe” to assist in final expenses and mailed in care of Stone Funeral Home, 1201 East Poplar St., West Frankfort, IL 62896.
