Cheryl Ann Spain Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Cheryl Ann Spain, age 64, of Zeigler, IL passed away at 1:42 a.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at Herrin Hospital in Herrin, IL after losing her battle with Covid-19. She was born on Tuesday, October 30, 1956 in Chicago, IL the daughter of George Edward and Agnes Laura (Bonenberger) Spain. Cheryl grew up and attended school in West Frankfort, IL and was a member of the Third Baptist Church. She was a loving home maker for her family as she managed the household and was formerly employed at the nursing home in Zeigler. Cheryl always enjoyed playing cards and going to Bingo with her sisters. She loved spending time with her family and friends and especially with her grandchildren. She will be missed by all who had the privilege to know and love her. She is survived by her two daughters, Kacee and Chad Schmitt of Waltonville, Il and Kelli Gross and Max McKinley of Cahokia, IL; one son, Kris Gross and Katherine of West Frankfort, IL; grandchildren, Coby Schmitt stationed in San Diego, CA, Candelyn Schmitt, Jonathan Darnell, Malcom, Katrianna, Kiandra, Marquez, and Aleeah McKinley; great grandson, Maxwell McKinley; four sisters, Alana Major of Benton, IL, Paula Morgan of West Frankfort, IL, Miranda Ellis and Mike Vosbein of Zeigler, IL, and Betty and Mike Dunning of West Frankfort, IL; three brothers, Dennis and Becky Spain of Benton, Bill and Sandy Spain of West Frankfort, IL, Kevin Spain of Zeigler, IL; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents and her significant other John Gross. Arrangements have been entrusted to Stone Funeral Home, 1201 E Poplar St, West Frankfort, IL 62896. Due to the executive order by the Governor of Illinois, those attending the visitation and funeral service inside, must wear a face mask and practice social distancing. The memorial service will be on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at 4:00 p.m. at Stone Funeral Home with internment to follow. For those who wish to attend, they should gather at the funeral home prior to start of the service. The family requests for those who prefer, memorial contributions to be made to Kacee Schmitt to help the family with final expenses. Memorial contributions may be mailed in care of Stone Funeral Home, 1201 E Poplar St, West Frankfort, IL 62896. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
