Sharon J. Savka, age 83, of rural West Frankfort, IL, passed away peacefully at 4:25 a.m. on Friday, November 20, 2020, at her home. She was born in Benton, IL, on Thursday, July 15, 1937, the daughter of Arthur and Sara (White) Kennedy. Sharon attended school in West Frankfort, and was a graduate of West Frankfort High School Class of 1955. After graduation she continued with her education attending a business school in St. Louis, MO. Soon after she completed her business training in the late 1950’s, Sharon began working for C.I.P.S., now known as Ameren, in their Marion, IL, office and continued working there for many years until her retirement in 1995, as one of their Head Book Keepers. She was united in marriage to Frank A. Savka on Saturday, April 2, 1966, at the home of her mother Sara Kennedy in West Frankfort, and together they shared over 53 years of marriage until his death on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019. Sharon was a member of the First Christian Church of West Frankfort, but had been attending at the Plumfield Christian Church, located west of West Frankfort, until her health started to decline. She was a member of the local Women’s Sorority and enjoyed being part of the local “Birthday Club” that would meet monthly at one of the local restaurants. Sharon was an avid reader and also enjoyed collecting tea cups and saucers. After her and Frank retired, they enjoyed going on driving travel trips to different parts of the country and had made several trips especially to Maine, to visit relatives and Florida. Though her family was small she enjoyed the many times they gathered together and also enjoyed being with her many friends. The many memories created will now be cherished by those she leaves behind. She is survived by her daughter, Sherry of Elkville, IL; cousin, Nadine Williams of West Frankfort; two brothers-in-law, George Savka and his wife, Lynda of Royalton, IL and Dick Largay of Bath, Maine; sister-in-law, Kathy Sanka of Chicago, IL; special extended family member, Irene Schwartz of Ft. Myers, FL, other extended family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Arrangements have been entrusted to Stone Funeral Home, 1201 E. Poplar Street, West Frankfort, IL. The graveside committal service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 23, 2020, in Tower Heights Cemetery of West Frankfort, with Pastor Mike Cash presiding. Those wishing to attend the committal service should gather at the cemetery prior to 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow next to her husband, Frank. For those who prefer memorial contributions may be made to “SSM Health at Home Hospice-IL”.
